In Vedanta, it is said, "Ayam Atma Brahma," which translates to "This self (atman) is Brahman." The self that we so often doubt and show no interest in knowing is the divine consciousness (Brahman) itself.
We roam the whole earth, exploring every nook and corner in search of happiness. However, if we come to realise that everything we seek is within us rather than outside, what would we do? Perhaps nothing. This realisation is akin to the story that Ramakrishna Paramhansa narrates of a lion cub raised by a family of sheep, which starts behaving like a sheep. Similarly, many of us are convinced that we are like sheep and view the idea of being a lion as mere fiction, detached from reality. In the story, a lion eventually awakens the sheepish lion to its true identity. In contrast, most of us may resist acknowledging our true essence even when presented with that reality.
Yet, there are some who are blessed with a curiosity for direct experience and begin to believe in this truth, and to explore its implications. For those few, this newfound knowledge becomes a pivotal moment in life. With an unwavering belief that the Atman residing within is Brahman, these individuals start to perceive the world in a fresh light. When the universe exists within you and the ego is subdued, what power do fear, failure, insecurity, doubt, shame, and guilt hold over you? They become powerless, for the concept of "power" loses its significance when compared to the minuscule form of divine consciousness.
However, it's crucial not to be overwhelmed by the profound implications of this thought. Remember, you hold immense power within you. Utilise it wisely.
